The Victorian Geriatric Medicine Training Program

The Victorian Geriatric Medicine Training Program (VGMTP) is an initiative of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine (Victorian Division), with funding from the Victorian Department of Health. We aim to improve the healthcare of older Victorians through a better trained and more diversified workforce.

VGMTP activities include:

  • Centralised match for Advanced Training
  • State-wide Advanced Training Program
  • Local training within our three training alliances
  • Communication skills training
  • On-line education modules in geriatric medicine

The VGMTP uses a variety of education and training approaches to target the needs of different audiences, including the Victorian state-wide training program for specialist trainees and on-line education modules.

The Victorian Geriatric Medicine Training Program (VGMTP) has developed a suite of foundation level education modules for health care professionals and students. Each module covers an important issue relating to the health and medical care of older people. VGMTP does not offer certificates for completion of our modules however a record of participation can be printed.
